Originating in the San Francisco Bay Area, Westerly is a six piece band that writes about spirituality, love, and the state of the world. Though they integrate roots influences, the band is expressly not a retrospective. Their sound brings contemporary flourishes that often give nod to the Americana, Rock, and other various forms of Roots Music that have characterized the West Coast musical landscape. Most recently the band is promoting their new singles “They Will Test You”, “This Weapon”, and “Give Me A Song”. All three tunes were penned by Westerly’s lead singer and principal songwriter Sterling Spence and showcase the band at its creative best. In addition to Spence, Westerly’s lineup includes Scott Wilson (lead guitar), Mike Bond (drums), Shiva Garshasbi (vocals), Spencer Hatfield (bass), and Evelyn Yining Hong (keys). A force to be reckoned with live, the band actively performs all over the state of California, gracing clubs, bars, coffee shops, radio stations, old folks homes and circus tents. They have shared stages with the likes of guitar virtuoso Grace Bowers and Latin Music Legends Ozomatli as well as being featured extensively on Bay Area radio stations including KPFA, KALW, and KALX. 2026 will see the band continuing to release new material and expanding their presence on stages up and down the West Coast.
Travis Hayes has shared the stage with Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio, blink-182), Graham Coxon (Blur), John Nolan (Taking Back Sunday, Straylight Run), Nathaniel Rateliff (The Night Sweats), The Band Perry, Langhorne Slim, Blitzen Trapper, John Moreland, The Record Company, Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), Lucero, Tim Barry (Avail) and more.
In addition to traveling the country (10+ cross-country tours, SXSW x3, Rockwood Music Hall NYC, Hotel Cafe LA, Off Beat Music Festival Reno), Travis Hayes has performed locally at The Fillmore, The Warfield, The Mountain Winery, Bimbo’s 365 Club, Rickshaw Stop, The Chapel, August Hall, Sweetwater Music Hall and has headlined Great American Music Hall, The Independent and Bottom of the Hill for the Noise Pop Music Festival.
